How to Replace a Key Fob Battery

Your Defender, Range Rover, or Discovery key fob will need a CR2032-type battery. This type of battery can be found at any Broomfield or Aurora hardware store. When you have the right battery for your key fob, you can then learn how to open the key fob to replace it. Here are the steps: 

1. Release the Key:Find a small black button on your key fob. Press it to release the metal emergency key blade from the plastic box. Some Defender, Range Rover, or Discovery keys feature a slide-able key you can remove. 
2. Open the Key Fob:You canuse the key blade itself or a small screwdriver to open the fob and access the battery. 
3. Replace the Key Fob Battery: Remove the battery and replace it with a new one. Make sure that the positive (+) side is up. Avoid touching the new battery. This is because moisture and oil from your fingers can corrode the battery, shortening its lifespan. 
4. Put the Key Back Together:Close the case of your key fob, and you are ready to go!

• Replace All Batteries at Once: Be sure to replace the batteries on all of the smart keys for your vehicle when you receive the “SMART KEY BATTERY LOW” message.
